The name is also spelt JEPHSON, JEPPE and JEPPS. The earliest of the name on record appears to be Thomas GEPSON of Yorkshire, who was listed in the Yorkshire Poll Tax of 1379. Later instances of the name mention Nicholas JEPSON, who was listed in the Wills at Chester in 1545, and Robert JEPSON of Oldfield, Manchester, was recorded in the same Wills in 1614.
