Jablonski Coat of Arms / Jablonski Family Crest

Jablonski Coat of Arms / Jablonski Family Crest

This surname of JABLONSKI is a Polish topographic name for someone who lived by an apple tree or apple orchard, or an occupational name for a grower or seller of apples. The name was originally derived from the Polish word JABLON (apple-tree) + SKI - the suffix for local surnames. Surnames derived from placenames are divided into two broad categories; topographic names and habitation names. Topographic names are derived from general descriptive references to someone who lived near a physical feature such as an oak tree, a hill, a stream or a church. Habitation names are derived from pre-existing names denoting towns, villages and farmsteads. Other classes of local names include those derived from the names of rivers, individual houses with signs on them, regions and whole countries. The importance in medieval northern Europe of apples, as a fruit which could be grown in a cold climate and would keep for use throughout the winter is hard to appreciate in these days of easy imports. The name has many variant spellings which include JABLOWSKI, YABLOCHKIN, JABLON, JABLONEC, JABLONS, JABLIN, YABLON, JAVLONER, YABLONER, YABLONSKY, JABLOW, YABLOKOV, YABLOKOFF and JABLKIEWCZ. The earliest Polish surnames were patronymic. The personal names from which they were derived were mainly Slavonic, but as the Middle Ages progressed, traditional Slavic given names, began to give way to saint's names, mainly of Latin origin. Surnames derived from Slavonic personal names are of early origin, and tend to be borne by aristocratic families. Many Polish people acquired their surnames by reason of former residence in a town or village. The posterity of Petr YABLONSKY who departed for Russia from Poland in 1580. In 1593 by charter of Tsar Feodor Ioannovich he was granted villages. Many of the family named KABLUKOV served the Throne in Russia in noble positions and were granted fiefdoms in 1628 and other years.
