The surname of EAKIN was a baptismal name 'the son of Edward', from the nickname Eddie and was a diminutive of Ede-kin. For at least five centuries the surname has lingered on in Oxfordshire and Berkshire. The name is also spelt EGGINS, EKINS, and EKIN. Early records of the name mention EDEKIN Gomey of the County of Oxford in 1273. Elena EDKYNES, of the County of Somerset was documented in the year 1373, and Edward EGGIN of Yorkshire, was listed in the Yorkshire Poll Tax of 1379.
