 Borodale Coat of Arms / Borodale Family CrestThe surname BORODALE was a locational name 'of Borrowdale' a chapelry in the parish of Crosthwaite, County Cumberland, six miles from Penrith. Early records of the name mention Robert Borodall and Margaret Brayge who were married in London in the year 1547. John Borrodall of Leicestershire, registered at Oxford University in the year 1596. Edmund Skyfield and Martha Borowdale married at St. George's, Hanover Square, London in 1602. William Rimes and Rebecca Borodale were married at the same church in 1684. In many parts of central and western Europe, hereditary surnames began to become fixed at around the 12th century, and have developed and changed slowly over the years.
